Trump spoke about the photo as the Pope
U.S. President Donald Trump commented on a photo showing him in a Pope's costume. According to Trump, this image pleased the Catholics and even his wife.
During a briefing, reporters asked Trump about this photo, which appeared on the social media platform Truth Social and the official White House account. This photo sparked a wave of criticism among church circles, but Trump himself sees nothing wrong with it.
«Catholics liked it», Trump emphasized, noting that he has nothing to do with the creation of this photograph.
The press service of the bishops of New York stated that they see nothing funny in this image, which was published on Trump’s and the White House's social media pages. In their statement, they expressed their dissatisfaction regarding the appearance of religious symbols.
«There is nothing intelligent or funny in this image, Mr. President. Do not mock us», remarked the Catholic Conference of New York.
At a previous event, Trump expressed a desire to become the successor of Pope Francis. Although he did not name a specific candidate, he acknowledged that he has 'a cardinal from New York' who is quite capable of this position. Interestingly, the Pope himself had warned that the illness that led to his death at the age of 88 was dangerous for him.
The Pope's wishes regarding burial were fulfilled, and he was buried in a Roman basilica, where he requested that his tomb be simple and modest.
