A resident of Mykolaiv region attempted to bribe a border guard to organize an illegal border crossing. The man planned to escape to Moldova with two acquaintances. However, during the bribery attempt, all were detained, and the organizer of the criminal scheme faces imprisonment - reports the National Police of Ukraine.

A 22-year-old man proposed a monetary incentive to the border guard for help crossing the border and providing information about the location of patrols. The amount of the bribe was 7500 dollars. However, the border guard reported this proposal to the management, and the offender was detained in the village of Rozdilna district when he approached the car with passengers from Mykolaiv region to hand over the bribe. Investigators seized the money as evidence and also the vehicles that the individuals arrived in at the destination.

What Punishment Is Imposed

The young man was charged with organizing illegal transportation of individuals across the border and bribing a public official. For these crimes, he faces up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property. The court has set a preventive measure in the form of detention with an option for bail of 514,760 hryvnias. The clients of the smuggler were issued protocols for attempting illegal border crossing, which may result in 15 days of arrest or a fine.
