According to ТСН: Border control officers did not allow entry to a tourist who brought nearly a hundred condoms in his suitcase. The man came under the scrutiny of immigration control at Medellín airport, Colombia, along with three other travelers.

Authorities reported that the U.S. citizens were confused in their answers and could not clearly explain the purpose of their visit, which raised suspicions about the group's intentions to engage in sex tourism.

All four were denied entry and returned to the countries they arrived from: three of them flew to Panama, while one was sent to Miami.

Enhanced Checks

The press service of Colombia's Migration Service noted that enhanced checks in Antioquia are aimed at combating sexual tourism. The agency confirmed that the travelers gave contradictory answers, and some items in their luggage indicated possible exploitation.

In the suitcase of one of the detainees, approximately 100 condoms and other sexual items were found, which served as grounds for an immediate denial of entry.

Entry Ban

Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez emphasized that since the beginning of 2024, 102 foreigners have been banned from entry due to suspicions of sex tourism.

“We protect our children,”
he noted.

Only in 2025, nearly 70 U.S. citizens were denied entry in Antioquia for similar reasons.

Fight Against Exploitation

The director general of Migración Colombia, Gloria Esperanza Arriero, emphasized:

“We will not allow Colombia to become a shelter for those who pose a threat to children. The fight against sexual exploitation is an absolute priority.”

This situation illustrates the serious battle of the Colombian government against sex tourism and exploitation, which has become an increasingly relevant topic in recent years. The measures taken indicate the intention to protect children and citizens of the country from the negative consequences of illegal activities. Such cases highlight the importance of immigration control and safety in the tourism sector in the region.
