In Belarus, opposition politician Siarhei Tsikhanouski has been released from prison.
Siargei Tsikhanouski was released from prison following a visit from a US representative. Journalists report that he has already left Belarus. Deputy Special Representative Keith Kellogg, John Cole, noted on social media 'X' that together with Tsikhanouski, 14 other political prisoners from Belarus were also released. Cole thanked the Lithuanian government for their cooperation and highlighted the strong leadership of President Trump.
Among those released were also other political prisoners, such as journalist Igor Losik and trusted person of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Antonina Konovalova. The court had sentenced Tsikhanouski to 18 years in prison, but now he is free along with others.
As a result of the US representative's visit, political prisoners were released, which is an important step towards political changes in Belarus. The support of allies abroad, such as the United States, in calling on the Belarusian authorities to release political prisoners and respect human rights was also crucial.
