The 137-year tradition of the clock striking on the town hall tower in Birkenhead has ended due to noise complaints. The clock will now strike only once an hour instead of every 15 minutes as before. This was reported by the Daily Mail.

The decision was made after one of the residents complained about excessive noise and the frequency of the clock strikes. An investigation conducted by the local authorities confirmed that the noise level exceeded the permitted limit.

Some local residents are protesting against this decision, arguing that the sounds of the clock are an integral part of their lives. Philip Barton, a member of the campaign to preserve local heritage, noted that many residents appreciate the regular striking of the clock and 'live under them.'

The town hall of Birkenhead was built by architect Charles Ellison in 1887 using Scottish granite and sandstone from a local quarry, which is now filled in.

Immigration to Britain reaches record levels

Estimates of the immigrant population published by the UK Office for National Statistics indicate that record levels of immigration to the country have been reached. This news prompted prominent politicians, including the Prime Minister, to make loud statements and hold press conferences. Over the last two to three years, the population of the UK has increased by almost a million people each year due to the arrival of immigrants.
