German politician urged Europe not to wait for Trump: The clock is ticking for Ukraine

Call to action in support of Ukraine

According to ТСН: Vice President of the German Bundestag Omid Nouripour stated that Europe needs to stop waiting for 'which leg Trump will get up from' regarding issues related to Ukraine.

Nouripour emphasized that the negotiations between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky have an 'ambivalent' nature. He underscored that:

'On one hand, the central question of the conflict in Ukraine is the right of Ukrainians to determine their own path. And if a result is ultimately achieved that is approved by the Ukrainian president and involves a nationwide vote — and this was also part of the outcome — and the people of Ukraine support it, then so be it. There should be no one else deciding what happens to Ukraine.'

However, the politician also noted that:

'Yesterday's summit, to be honest, was no different from any others. The logic is increasingly distancing itself from the reality in Ukraine and the people there — and is increasingly determined by Putin.'

Commenting on the discussions in Germany regarding the provision of TAURUS cruise missiles to Ukraine, Nouripour expressed confusion regarding the doubts of Chancellor Friedrich Merz. According to him:

'I don't know why he is hesitating right now. The clock is ticking louder and louder. Ukraine is simply losing time while the Russians continue to bombard and destroy the country’s infrastructure. As Trump rightly said, in this way, the Russians are improving their negotiating position. And we Europeans are just sitting and watching how Ukraine cannot do this, and we are not helping her. This is a big mistake.'

Nouripour believes that European countries must provide Ukraine with 'everything that strengthens its defense capabilities' and not wait for 'whether Trump gets up today from the left or the right leg.'

It was also noted that the Kremlin claims that Trump is 'shocked' by the strikes on Putin's residence and threatens to review its position. After meeting with Trump, Zelensky stated that the peace plan is 90% ready, but two important questions remain unresolved.

It is important to note that Nouripour's comments highlight the urgent need for action by European countries to support Ukraine in the face of military aggression from Russia. Europe is facing an important choice: whether to continue waiting for changes in the political situation in the USA or to actively act to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities and improve its negotiating position in the international arena.
