Czechia has increased the number of permits for citizens wishing to fight in Ukraine

The President of Czechia, Petr Pavel, granted permission for 40 citizens to participate in combat actions in Ukraine in 2024, which is twice as many as last year.

'Last year, the Minister of Defence submitted 114 applications from 109 individuals to the president for consideration. Five individuals reapplied,' noted the spokesperson for the President's Office, Filip Platosh.

During his term, the Czech leader received 181 applications from Czech citizens to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, of which he approved 60 requests and rejected 121. The most common reason for rejection was the negative conclusion from one of the three ministries: Defence, Interior, or Foreign Affairs.

'Over the past year, the interest of Czechs in participating in the armed defense of Ukraine has grown. A total of 667 requests were submitted, of which 477 were presented to former President Miloš Zeman, who granted permission to 132 people,' the report states.

Recently, Czechia supplied Ukraine with 1.5 million artillery shells, including 800 thousand for urgent delivery. Germany also supported this initiative, allocating 576 million euros for the purchase of 180 thousand shells. In addition, Czechia has allocated 500 million crowns for humanitarian and economic projects. The Lex Ukraine law on temporary protection for Ukrainians has also been extended until 2025.
