Farewell Ceremony for the Rescuers

According to Novyny.live: A solemn ceremony was held in Kharkiv to honor the memory of firefighters and an emergency management official who lost their lives in a Russian attack during the night of June 15. The deceased include four firefighters from the 6th State Fire and Rescue Unit and Oleksiy Dorozhkin, an employee of the Kharkiv City Council’s Emergency Situations Department.

In the early hours of June 15, a Russian bombardment in Kharkiv killed five rescuers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Five other firefighters were wounded in the same series of attacks. On June 15 and 16, Russian forces also targeted 11 other settlements in the region, not just the city itself. These strikes left 23 people injured, including four children.

Honoring the Memory of the Fallen

“They came to help people, to extinguish fires, to save lives. But the Russian aggressor launched a second strike, and our men are gone. They will remain in our hearts forever. They are true heroes. And heroes never die.”

Ihor Terekhov, Mayor of Kharkiv

The city has declared a day of mourning in remembrance of the victims.

This tragedy highlights the dangers that emergency responders face while carrying out their duties during wartime. The loss of five firefighters has sparked widespread public outcry, underscoring the critical role these individuals play in crisis situations. Furthermore, the shelling that affected not only Kharkiv but also numerous other towns underscores the ongoing military hostilities in the region, endangering both civilians and rescue personnel.
