Kyiv Power Outage: 610,000 Consumers Still Without Electricity, Says Shmyhal.
Power Supply Situation in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: During a meeting of the emergency response headquarters in Kyiv on January 28, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that 610,000 consumers remain without electricity. He stated that the situation with the energy infrastructure remains difficult due to a power deficit, a direct consequence of Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukraine's energy grid.
To help mitigate the crisis, 437 generators have already been delivered from the European Union and Japan. Furthermore, the arrival of 52 power transformers from the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Azerbaijan, and Lithuania is expected, which will also contribute to improving the power supply.
Extended School Holidays and Condolences
Due to the prolonged power outages, school holidays in Kyiv have been extended until February 1 to ensure the safety and convenience of students and their families. In a separate statement, Denys Shmyhal expressed his sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of a gas service worker who was killed in the Donetsk region by a Russian FPV-drone attack.
'The situation in the energy sector remains under control, but it requires support and effort from international partners.' Denys Shmyhal
This energy crisis underscores the critical importance of international aid for Ukraine as it faces military aggression and the destruction of its infrastructure. The timely supply of generators and transformers could significantly improve the situation and restore energy stability. The extension of school holidays further highlights the need for measures to ensure public safety during such critical situations.
