Underwater Flowers of Tuzlivski Lymans: How Anemones Dazzle with Their Beauty and Predation.
In the Tuzlivski Lymans National Nature Park, you can see real 'underwater flowers' — anemones. These coral polyps grab everything that touches their tentacles.
This was reported by Ivan Rusyev, an ecologist at the Tuzlivski Lymans National Nature Park.
Anemones in the Lymans of Odesa Region
He explained that anemones are coral polyps with soft bodies that, in the sunlight, resemble amazing underwater flowers. In the 'Tuzlivski Lymans,' they attach themselves to stones, shells, or any hard surface, forming entire colorful colonies.
'They react differently to prey: some swallow everything that gets onto their tentacles, others immediately spit out inedible items. There are also those that hunt small fish or filter tiny food particles from the water', says Ivan Rusyev.
What Anemones Look Like
Some anemones live in symbiosis with algae — they receive nutrients from their 'green friends.' In danger, the polyps squeeze into a ball and can remain like this for hours, waiting for a safe moment.
'These are some of the most beautiful inhabitants of our underwater world. Their coloration ranges from soft pastel tones to bright, almost fluorescent shades. They not only adorn the lymans but also play an essential role in the underwater ecosystem', the ecologist added.
It is worth noting that a sea dragon has returned to the Black Sea. We also wrote that the stingrays have reappeared in the sea — fish with a poisonous spine on their tail.
Anemones are coral polyps with unique properties that play an important role in the underwater ecosystem of the Tuzlivski Lymans National Park. They impress with their appearance and feeding habits, forming beautiful colonies on various surfaces and coexisting with other marine inhabitants.
