Powerful explosions rang out in Lviv: what is known about the attack on critical infrastructure.

According to ТСН: On the evening of January 8, loud explosions were heard in Lviv during an air raid alert.

The city's mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, reported that a series of strikes were heard after the alert was announced. He noted:

“After the air raid alert was announced, a series of explosions were heard in Lviv. We are currently investigating what exactly happened, whether these were strikes and in which area. We are working with all services. We will inform you promptly about the situation in the city.”

The head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, added that a critical infrastructure facility was hit in the Lviv region. He urged:

“More information will come later. Please stay in shelters until the all-clear.”

Monitoring chats indicate that the strike on Lviv may have been delivered by an “Oreshnik,” but this information has not yet been confirmed.

“According to local residents, 6 explosions were heard, and this number matches the “Kedr/Oreshnik”. This information will be clarified. We are awaiting comments from the Air Forces,” reports one of the public pages.

The well-known monitoring public page “Mykolaiv Vanyk” noted that there is currently no reliable information regarding the “Oreshnik.”

“There is a version that the “Oreshnik” indeed was present and it was heading towards Stryi. However, where it arrived (or not) is currently unknown,” writes “Vanyk.”

Meanwhile, recordings of explosion sounds in Lviv are spreading online.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also warned in the evening that there might be a new massive Russian attack at night.

The U.S. Embassy also warns of the threat of a large-scale airstrike on Ukraine.
