Dengue Fever in Lviv: Who Detected the Tropical Disease.
According to ТСН: In Lviv, a case of tropical virus infection was recorded in a man who returned from Indonesia.
The patient was diagnosed with dengue fever at the Lviv Regional Infectious Clinical Hospital. After his trip to Indonesia, he sought medical help complaining of rashes on his body and high fever. This was reported by the director of the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Natalia Ivanchenko-Timko.
What is Known About Dengue Fever
According to the patient, during his stay in Indonesia, he was bitten by mosquitoes that are carriers of dengue fever — a viral disease prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions, including Indonesia.
The director of the regional CDC noted that in Southeast Asian countries, the risk of contracting dengue fever is very high, especially in urban and suburban areas. The infection can be transmitted by infected individuals, monkeys, as well as mosquitoes of the Aedes genus and Stegomyia subgenus. Additionally, the disease can be transmitted through infected blood transfusions or from mother to child during childbirth.
In Lviv, doctors promptly suspected dengue fever in the tourist, and later the disease was confirmed in the laboratory.
“Dear tourists! If you are traveling to countries where there is a large number of mosquitoes – carriers of infectious diseases – take repellents with you,”— urged Natalia Ivanchenko-Timko.
It was also previously reported about a new dangerous virus, for which no treatment has been found yet. The World Health Organization warned of the serious threat of a new widespread outbreak of the Chikungunya virus – a dangerous infection transmitted through mosquito bites.
This case of infection highlights the importance of caution when traveling to tropical countries, where the risk of contracting various viruses is high. Doctors emphasize the need to use mosquito protection to avoid similar situations in the future.
