Russian Strike in Mykolaiv: Electricity Generation Completely Destroyed
The thermal power plant in Mykolaiv was destroyed by a Russian drone strike. This led to a complete halt in electricity generation, and the city is now seeking alternative power sources. This was reported by the city mayor, Oleksandr Senkevich.
Russian drones attacked the city’s thermal power station on the night of February 16, causing the cessation of heating supply for subscribers.
«We are currently trying to restore heating supply by looking for alternative ways. The work is progressing slowly, but we continue to provide all the support», - said Senkevich.
The mayor also noted that thanks to cooperation with Denmark, they were able to obtain modular boilers that help retain heat in hospitals.
Over 46 thousand subscribers remain without heating
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that over 46 thousand subscribers remain without heating supply. In this regard, the city has established 67 points of resilience and started connecting three modular boilers to medical facilities.
Thermal power plants from recycled waste
In addition, Ukraine is considering the possibility of building thermal power plants that will use recycled waste as fuel. Communities are currently being selected for the implementation of this project, taking into account the population size and the availability of waste recycling.
