Nekrasov on Russia's strikes on energy: the main goal is psychological pressure, not blackout

According to ТСН: The main aim of Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities is not to cause a blackout, but to exert psychological pressure on the population. This opinion was expressed by the acting Minister of Energy Artem Nekrasov.

Psychological pressure on Ukrainians

In his view, the Russians do not aim to completely power down Ukraine. The attacks on energy infrastructure are used by the Russian army as a tool to pressure Ukrainians, with the goal of sowing panic among the people.

“One thing is when there is no electricity, a completely different matter is when there is no heating in winter. The purpose of this campaign is to try to sow panic, break resistance, and divide society,” said the ministry representative.

Strike on electricity and heating supply

According to Nekrasov, the attack is focused not only on electricity supply but also on heating systems in cities. The Russians are trying to disrupt the integrity of the energy system, which negatively affects electricity supply in the Left Bank and certain regions of the Right Bank.

The ministry representative stated that if Russia stops attacking energy infrastructure, Ukraine will need about two months to restore stable system operation without outages.

Situation at nuclear power plants

It should be noted that Ukrainian nuclear power plants have reduced generation due to Russian strikes. Energy workers are working to restore the networks, as the Russians continue to strike critical infrastructure that provides power and capacity to nuclear power plants.

Earlier, DTEK General Director Maxim Timchenko stated that this winter in Ukraine will be one of the hardest. Due to attacks on power plants, people may remain without electricity for 15 to 20 hours. Occupiers are massively attacking DTEK stations.

The continuation of attacks on energy infrastructure threatens not only electricity supply but also the overall comfort level of Ukrainians this winter. Experts believe that it is necessary to ensure better preparedness of the system for such challenges, as winter has only just begun, and Russian strikes may intensify. It is important that Ukrainians receive timely information and are able to prepare for potential disruptions to electricity and heating.
