Putin's spokesperson stated readiness for negotiations, but outlined red lines.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow is ready to seek a 'balance of interests' in negotiations regarding the end of the war with Ukraine. He also dismissed the possibility of discussing the status of Crimea and control over the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
In an interview with American broadcaster CBS News, Lavrov noted that US President Donald Trump 'told the truth about the ownership of Crimea' and understands Russia's position. He considers the issue of Crimea 'closed' and stated that Russia does not negotiate over its own territory.
Regarding the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, Lavrov denied any proposals to change its status. He stated that the plant is operated by the Russian Federation and is under the monitoring of the IAEA.
Lavrov emphasized that Russia is ready to seek a 'balance of interests' in negotiations but did not provide specific details. He also confirmed that Moscow continues to insist on the termination of Western military assistance to Ukraine as a condition for a ceasefire.
Rubio previously stated that the next week will be decisive for peace negotiations regarding Ukraine.
