On the night of August 4th, explosions occurred in the Volgograd region of the Russian Federation, related to an attack by unknown drones on one of the railway facilities, causing a fire.
Frolovo in flames - drones attacked the railway station
Residents of the Volgograd region heard numerous explosions, particularly in the city of Frolovo, where the 'Archeda' railway station caught on fire. Some sources claimed that unknown drones attacked the dispatch center located within the railway node.
Immediately after the attack, the governor of the Volgograd region, Andrei Bocharov, reported the 'repulsion' of the attack. He stated that firefighters were extinguishing a blaze at the technical building of the station, and glass was shattered in two residential buildings, but the passenger infrastructure of the station was unharmed. Train traffic was temporarily restricted due to a drone lying on the railway tracks.
The drone attack was directed at the transport and energy sector of the region. Consequently, the airports of Volgograd and Tambov were closed. Earlier, on July 21, the Rostov region also suffered from a drone attack, which caused a fire near the railway station. It is also noteworthy that Ukrainian drones recently attacked a military airfield and enterprises in Russia.
The events that took place in the Volgograd region underline the rising threat from drones as instruments of terrorism and espionage. This poses a serious threat to infrastructure and security in the region and necessitates improved measures to prevent potential attacks in the future.
