The cost of coffin manufacturing in the Russian Federation has increased by 74%

According to Rosstat, the cost of coffin manufacturing in Russia has increased by 74% since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. In October 2024, the average cost of a coffin was 7,711 rubles, compared to 4,437 rubles in January 2022.

The increase in coffin prices began right at the start of the invasion of Ukraine. The cost of coffin manufacturing increased by 12%, or 548 rubles, from February to August 2022.

A new rise in funeral service prices became noticeable after the announcement of mobilization. In September 2022, a coffin cost 4,998 rubles, while by February 2023, the price had risen by 33% to 6,669 rubles.

The cost of coffins increased by 48% in 2022, nearly 12% in 2023, and another 10% in the first 9 months of 2024. In some regions, this increase was even greater: in Sakhalin - by 181%, in the Omsk region - by 162%, and in the Tambov and Smolensk regions - by 104% and 103% respectively in 2023.

A trend of 'casket therapy' has emerged in Russia

A new trend has emerged in Russia - 'casket therapy'. This is a psychological practice conducted for those who have lost their zest for life. A living person lies in a coffin, and then relatives say goodbye. According to the owner of a funeral agency, this helps people who are in deep depression and do not feel happiness to understand that there is a way out of this state, and they can cope with other problems in life.

Prices for this service vary. The cost of casket therapy starts at 35,000 rubles in Samara and can reach up to 150,000 rubles in Izhevsk.
