Russia accused of distracting attention from aggression against Ukraine

At the UN Security Council meeting on October 4, the acting political coordinator of the US mission to the UN, Andrew Curiel, accused Russia of diverting attention from aggression against Ukraine by convening a meeting on sabotage on the "Nord Stream" pipelines.

This is reported by "Khvylya", referring to the UN press service statement.

Curiel pointed to the hypocrisy of Russia in initiating this meeting. He emphasized that Russia is trying to divert the Security Council's attention from the war and destruction in Ukraine while systematically destroying energy infrastructure and water supply systems in Ukraine.

"This means a catastrophic winter for millions of Ukrainians," the US representative stated.

The US accused Russia of a disinformation strategy

According to Curiel, the pipeline incidents were most likely deliberate acts of sabotage. However, he stressed that this topic is not a priority for the UN Security Council given the multitude of other urgent issues.

The US representative also accused Russia of using a disinformation strategy to change narratives. He noted that Russia groundlessly accused the US of being involved in the sabotage of the pipelines.

"There is no evidence of US involvement, and there never will be, because the United States has nothing to do with it," Curiel emphasized.

Russia "resolutely achieving the truth" about pipeline explosions

In turn, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stated the "determination to seek truth" regarding the pipeline incidents.

The "Nord Stream" pipeline systems are major energy arteries connecting Russia and Germany along the Baltic Sea floor. The first line of this system, "Nord Stream," capable of transporting 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, is currently not operational. Its twin, "Nord Stream-2" with identical capacity, was technically ready for operation but was not launched due to imposed sanctions.

It's worth noting that earlier, Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary, called the explosions on the Russian "Nord Streams" a terrorist act "clearly committed under American leadership".
