The US turned back a life-sentence murderer who escaped before Christmas.


A prisoner who escaped from a Mississippi state prison before Christmas was on the run for just one day. He was captured by local law enforcement the following day. This information was reported by CNN citing the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
According to reports, «the convicted murderer escaped from the South Mississippi prison in Leakesville on Tuesday, December 24, around 3:30 PM».
He was caught the next day near the prison. Details of the operation were not disclosed.
33-year-old Drew Johnson is known for his violent crimes across several states. In 2016, he fatally shot his acquaintance more than twenty times. The body of his victim was found in a field near Memphis.
In 2022, he pleaded guilty to a series of violent crimes and arson. While in prison, he also attacked another inmate.
Local law enforcement describes Johnson as «desperate» and «very, very dangerous».
He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for murder and 15 years for each additional crime.
It should be noted that in the Australian state of Queensland, children aged 10 years and older can face life imprisonment for murder.
US President Joe Biden commuted the sentences of 37 out of 40 federal inmates sentenced to death.
