"I had never encountered anything like this before and was a bit shocked," she stated.Ride-hailing scams are a growing concern for travelers, who often rely on app-based services for convenience and safety.
Similar incidents have been reported by other users on Facebook, occurring in Romania and in Faro, Portugal. The fraudulent actions of these taxi drivers have caused significant concern among visitors to these countries. As one traveler noted,

How Scams Can Ruin a Trip
A tourist who visited Therme Bucharest—Europe's largest indoor spa center—pointed out that such taxi scams can severely impact the overall travel experience. It is important to note that for trips to Poland, Ukrainians are required to have at least 300 złoty, while the average monthly salary for a taxi driver in Ukraine is 37,500 UAH. These facts underscore the need for vigilance when using taxi services abroad, especially for tourists unfamiliar with local practices.
This situation highlights the critical need for tourists to exercise caution when hailing cabs in foreign countries, as fraudulent schemes can significantly tarnish their trip. Given the rising popularity of travel to Romania and Portugal, local authorities and taxi services should implement measures to improve safety and prevent fraud to protect their destinations' reputations. This also serves as a reminder for travelers to carefully review trip conditions and be prepared for potential unexpected situations.
