June 2 Strikes: Ukrainian Forces Hit Crimean Refinery, Destroy Drone Depot.
Ukrainian Military Operations on June 2
According to UATV: On June 2, Ukraine's defense forces targeted the Ilsky oil refinery, a Pantsir-S1 air defense system, and a Russian naval vessel in Crimea. The operation also involved destroying an enemy drone storage facility and striking concentrations of Russian personnel. The Ilsky refinery, located in temporarily occupied Crimea, ranks among the largest in southern Russia, with an annual processing capacity of 6.6 million tons of oil.
Missile Strike on the Novoshakhtinsk Refinery
Additionally, on May 31, Ukrainian forces launched a missile attack on the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia's Rostov region. The strike confirmed damage to two primary oil processing units. Two storage tanks and buildings housing main pumping stations at the Lazarevo linear production dispatching station in Russia were also hit. Damage to primary oil processing units at the Saratov refinery was recorded as well.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian oil facilities have knocked out nearly 40% of Russia's primary oil refining capacity. These actions by Ukrainian forces demonstrate an intensification of efforts to cripple enemy logistics in occupied territories and within Russia itself.
The operations carried out by Ukrainian forces underscore Kyiv's strategic goal of destroying critical enemy infrastructure, which could significantly impact Russia's military capabilities. The substantial reduction in Russian oil refining capacity may limit resources available for military operations, potentially affecting the overall course of hostilities. These strikes also signal a new phase in the conflict, with Ukraine ramping up efforts across all fronts, including targeting economic and energy components.
