Ukraine’s Strikes on Russian Rear Areas Double: Fedorov Reveals Primary Objective.
Ukrainian Military Strikes Surge in May 2023
According to UATV: In May 2023, Ukraine’s armed forces doubled the number of attacks on Russian targets located more than 50 kilometers from the front line. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov made the announcement, noting that these strikes target positions between 20 and 150 kilometers away. He also highlighted record-breaking results in destroying enemy vehicles and motorcycles.
'The logistics lockdown is working. Following the president’s orders, we are scaling up strikes on targets 20 to 150 kilometers out. The number of hits on enemy assets beyond 50 kilometers from the contact line has doubled. We are also seeing unprecedented figures in the destruction of enemy cars and motorcycles. We are hitting what fuels Russia’s offensive. Taking out logistics, transport, and depots forces the enemy to spend resources on survival rather than advancing.' Mykhailo Fedorov
Specific Actions by Ukrainian Forces
Among the concrete measures taken by Ukrainian troops are:
- Destroying a Russian “Molniya” drone launch site in central Pokrovsk;
- Attacking an oil depot in Russia’s Ust-Labinsk;
- Striking multiple facilities used by occupiers in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories.
The rise in attacks on Russian targets underscores the growing activity of Ukrainian defense forces and their ability to hit objectives at long distances. This shift could alter the conflict’s dynamics, as dismantling the enemy’s supply chains hampers its offensive capabilities. These operations highlight the critical importance of controlling transport routes and resources that sustain Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine.
