Ukraine should demand $300 billion of frozen Russian assets before the end of the war - experts.
Participants of the round table 'How to return blocked Russian money to Ukraine', held by the 'Financial Club', expressed the opinion that Ukraine should demand the transfer of frozen Russian assets from the West, regardless of the results of the war.
We need to speak up and push the EU to give us these $300 billion, not only as winners, but now - for the crimes committed by the Russian Federation against our country,' - said Mykhailo Nonyak.
According to him, in addition to the assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation in the amount of approximately $220 billion, a small amount of other Russian assets in the West are also blocked.
These are assets of 14 thousand different enterprises and individuals sanctioned in the US, UK, Canada, Switzerland and the EU,' - Mykhailo Nonyak revealed.
Experts emphasized that there is no need to wait for victory in the war in order to have the right to demand compensation from Russia. Russian aggression is an international crime and does not require additional proof, so Ukraine already has the right to seek compensation from Russia.
There is a crossing of the border by regular troops of another state and there is an occupation of the territory. Therefore, for the international community and international courts, this means that it is Russian aggression. And if there is a crime and there are victims, we have the right to claim compensation for damages,' - said Hanna Maliar.
