Germany on the conditions for Ukraine's peace concessions: clear security guarantees from the US.
Ukraine's Expectations for Security Guarantees
According to ТСН: The Head of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, emphasized that Ukraine can consider the possibility of concessions within the framework of a peace agreement only if reliable security guarantees are available.
According to the minister, it is critically important for these guarantees to be effective and reliable, especially from the United States.
"This, of course, means commitments and genuine readiness on the part of those making promises to support Ukraine if it is attacked by Russia again,"
Wadephul noted. He also mentioned that Kyiv may make concessions, including territorial changes, only in the presence of clear and reliable guarantees from Western partners, such as the US and European countries.
The minister added that when peace is established and Russia truly wishes to discuss the terms, it will then be possible to talk in more detail about these guarantees.
"We have not seen this yet,"
he summarized.
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky received information that Kyiv received a draft security guarantees document from the US and is preparing its proposals. Ukraine's main requirement is a provision similar to Article 5 of the NATO Charter, as well as a clear mechanism for responding to new aggression from the Russian Federation. Information regarding arms supply remains confidential until the agreements are finalized.
At a meeting in Miami between representatives of Ukraine and the US, drafts of documents related to security guarantees, restoration, and completion of the war were prepared. According to Zelensky, these items aim to achieve a real end to hostilities and prevent another invasion from Russia.
In the context of events, it is important to note that Ukraine is currently actively working on defining the conditions of peace and security. The guarantees that Kyiv seeks are critically important for stability in the region, as without them any peace agreements will remain uncertain. By observing these negotiations, we can understand how relations between Ukraine and its Western partners will develop further, as well as Russia's actions on the international stage.
