Ukraine studies European electoral law models

Ukraine is actively studying European models of electoral law, including electronic voting. The main goal is to hold elections after the end of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Politico.

According to the publication, conducting quality and fair elections is essential for normalizing the situation in a country affected by conflict, as well as for achieving European standards and Ukraine's aspirations to join the European Union.

Olena Shulyak, head of the Committee on State Governance in the Ukrainian parliament, told the publication that the authorities are considering various electoral law models to understand how to conduct democratic elections using the best and most effective practices. She emphasized that one of the most important issues is the lack of voters due to their departure abroad.

Politico notes that even after the end of the conflict, one of Ukraine's main challenges will be ensuring voting opportunities for citizens abroad, including occupied territories controlled by Russia. Shulyak added that it is necessary to resolve all issues regarding the location and method of voting for these individuals. To this end, Ukrainian officials are studying European election models, focusing on electronic voting and IT security.

Olena Shulyak also reported that options for voting being considered include mail-in voting, in-person voting abroad on election day, proxy voting, and online voting.
