President Donald Trump implemented a unilateral 10% tariff on all imports from numerous countries, which came into effect on Saturday, and in the current campaign, the US Customs Agency began collecting taxes.
The initial base tariff of 10% took effect at American marine and port terminals, as well as in customs warehouses at 12:01 Eastern Time. Higher taxes on goods from 57 major trading partners are set to take effect next week.
Trump's announcement of the tariff caused losses in global equity markets and led to a two-day drop of a record $5 trillion for S&P 500 index companies by Friday's close. This resulted in a decline in oil and commodity prices.
