Ukraine will receive 90 billion euros from the EU: when to expect the first payment
According to TSN.ua: The proposal for reparative credit for Ukraine was agreed upon at the European Council meeting in December. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that the first payment under the 90 billion euro loan is scheduled for April 2024. The total amount of financial assistance to Ukraine will be 90 billion euros, of which 60 billion euros will be used to purchase equipment and weapons from manufacturers in EU and EFTA countries.
The agreement with European leaders guarantees Ukraine 90 billion euros over two years, meaning the country will receive 45 billion euros per year. Volodymyr Zelensky noted that this agreement is an important step in supporting Ukraine. Ursula von der Leyen also emphasized that the European Union reserves the right to use frozen Russian assets, which will remain frozen until the end of the war and until reparations are paid.
Distribution of funding
The distribution of funding implies that:
- One third will be directed to Ukraine's general budget
- Two thirds – for military supplies
This initiative is an important step in ensuring the stability and security of Ukraine amid the current situation.
This financial assistance from the EU is a significant step in supporting Ukraine, which faces the challenges of war and economic instability. An important part of the agreement is the use of frozen Russian assets, which could become an additional source of funding for the country's recovery.
