EU Grants Ukraine €3.9 Billion for Defense: Where the Funding Will Go.
EU Loan to Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s state budget has received a €3.9 billion loan from the European Union through the newly established Ukraine Support Loan mechanism. This marks the first installment of defense-related aid under this program, bringing total disbursements to Ukraine via this instrument to €7 billion.
On June 25, €3.2 billion was allocated for budgetary support. Then, on June 30, the European Commission released a portion of the first tranche from a broader €90 billion EU credit facility dedicated to defense. This initial payment amounts to €3.9 billion, with the full first tranche totaling roughly €6 billion.
'These funds will be used to cover priority defense needs,' stated Yuliia Svyrydenko.
The European Commission’s press office confirmed that 'the European Commission is disbursing €3.9 billion today as the first payment under the initial tranche of approximately €6 billion, intended for the procurement of drones.'
Additionally, other nations have recently announced new aid packages for Ukraine:
- Australia pledged a fresh $100 million assistance package;
- The United Kingdom plans to supply Ukraine with 150,000 drones and over 350 missiles.
This demonstrates continued international solidarity with Ukraine amid ongoing challenges.
Receiving this EU loan represents a significant milestone for Ukraine in strengthening its defense capabilities, especially given the prolonged military conflict. The financing, earmarked for drone acquisitions, aims to enhance the country’s military readiness and overall defensive posture. Growing global support—including contributions from Australia and the UK—underscores the international community’s commitment to backing Ukraine during this difficult period.
