Ukraine's Switch to Daylight Saving Time

According to Novyny.live: On March 28, 2023, Ukrainians will move their clocks forward by one hour as the country transitions to daylight saving time. This annual practice sparks ongoing debate about its necessity and effects on people's well-being. The time change will occur overnight from Saturday, March 28, to Sunday, March 29, at 3:00 AM. As a result, Sundays will feel shorter while daylight hours extend, potentially disrupting sleep patterns and daily routines for many.

Odesa Residents Share Mixed Views on the Clock Change

In Odesa, opinions about the time shift are divided. Some locals report little to no discomfort from the adjustment. Igor, one of those surveyed, commented:

“We’ve just gotten used to it—when spring comes, you change the clocks to sleep better. If people are already accustomed, I say keep it as is; there’s no need to cancel it. For me, actually, when the time changes, it brings a bit of joy.” - Igor

Similarly, Vadim stated, “Honestly, it doesn’t affect me. If other countries do it, we might as well do it here too.”

However, other respondents voiced concerns about adapting to the new schedule. Svetlana remarked:

“It really messes with my sleep. You end up going to bed late and waking up way too early. I think it’s time to put a stop to all this.” - Svetlana

Maria added, 'It affects me a bit, of course. We just have to get used to it—that’s the only way to adapt. I think it’s better to step away from it.' Viktor, meanwhile, noted: 'Not really, it doesn’t affect me much. Intuitively, it feels like we should move away from this practice. But how would that work in practice?'

In Odesa, there is also discussion about adjusting the start of the curfew to 1:00 AM, which could help mitigate the effects of the time change. Overall, the issue of daylight saving time remains a hot topic in society, drawing both support and criticism from residents.

Shifting clocks for daylight saving time is an annual tradition in many countries, aimed at making better use of natural daylight. Still, adapting to the new time frame can be challenging for some, as reflected by the varied opinions among Odesa’s residents. Ongoing talks about changing the curfew start time further highlight how the community is actively responding to these changes, seeking the best ways to ease the transition into daylight saving time.
