Ukraine will receive 1.5 billion euros monthly from frozen Russian assets - EU
The European Union plans to provide Ukraine with 1.5 billion euros each month starting January 2025 from the profits obtained from frozen Russian assets. This was stated by António Costa, the new President of the European Council, during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Ukraine will have the opportunity to use these funds, particularly for military needs.
Additionally, this month the EU will allocate 4.2 billion euros in macro-financial assistance.
Furthermore, during the first half of the year, the EU and Ukraine will collaborate to open at least two negotiation clusters concerning the process of eurointegration.
It is worth noting that Volodymyr Zelensky met with the new President of the European Council António Costa. He arrived in Ukraine on his very first working day.
Earlier, Zelensky explained how the country should utilize the frozen Russian assets.
It is important to mention that disputes regarding the fate of frozen Russian assets have been ongoing for over two years, since the European Union blocked operations related to the management of the Russian Central Bank reserves on February 27, 2022. The assets are under the custody of Euroclear in Belgium.
Moreover, the 'Group of Seven' countries plan to preserve frozen Russian sovereign assets even after the war in Ukraine ends.
