Ukraine in the top 5 suppliers of organic products to the EU: what are the goals for the future.
Ukraine has consistently been among the top 5 suppliers of organic products to the European Union for many years. This was reported by Taras Vysotsky, Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine, during the annual conference 'Organic Day in Ukraine'.
State of the organic sector in Ukraine
According to inkorr.com: Today, there are 260 certified operators in Ukraine complying with national organic legislation, and 436 that meet the requirements of EU and/or US legislation. Taras Vysotsky noted: 'Despite all the challenges of today, participants in the organic sector continue to work resolutely, and this brings results. For example, as of now, there are already two certification bodies operating in Ukraine, confirming the growing demand and interest from producers. About 350,000 hectares of agricultural land have organic status. This is approximately 1.2% of the total agricultural land in Ukraine. Our goals are ambitious — initially to reach a 5% figure, and then 25%, as planned in EU countries.'
Prospects for organic production
Ukraine remains one of the main suppliers of organic products to the EU, demonstrating stable growth in the production of organic products. The steps taken to support the organic sector contribute to achieving ambitious goals in this area.
Given the growing consumer interest in eco-friendly products, organic production in Ukraine has every chance to continue its pace of development. Expanding certification and improving quality standards can provide Ukrainian producers with even more opportunities in the European market, which, in turn, will stimulate the growth of agriculture in the country.
