Russia's March 19-20 Assault on Ukraine: What Was Used
According to Novyny.live: On March 19 and 20, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine, deploying 156 unmanned aerial vehicles. According to reports, Ukrainian air defense units had successfully neutralized 133 of those drones by the morning of March 20.
Of the 156 drones involved in the assault, 90 were Iranian-made Shahed drones. The launches originated from multiple locations, including:
- Bryansk
- Oryol
- Kursk
- Shatalovo
- Millerovo
- Primorsko-Akhtarsk
- Gvardeyskoye
- Chauda
As of 8:00 AM on March 20, Ukraine's air defense forces reported that 133 enemy drones had been either shot down or suppressed.
Notably, 19 strike drones successfully hit their targets across 13 different locations, while debris from downed drones was recorded at seven sites. Separately, analysts indicate that Russia has lost up to 30% of its S-400 missile systems over the past six months.
This attack underscores Russia's continued aggressive operations against Ukraine, as well as the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense in countering drone threats.
The March 19-20 assault by Russian troops on Ukraine highlights the aggressor's sustained high level of aerial activity and persistent attempts to compromise the security of Ukrainian territory. The strong performance of Ukraine's air defense forces, which managed to eliminate a significant portion of the attackers, demonstrates their ability to adapt to emerging threats. This could also influence future military strategies on both sides, especially given the reported reduction in Russia's S-400 air defense systems.
