Ukraine Targets Telecom Operators in Occupied Regions with New Sanctions.
Sanctions Imposed on Russian Propaganda Outlets
According to Espreso.tv: On June 12, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved sanctions against Russian propaganda media and judges from the Russian Federation. These measures aim to counter information warfare and weaken support for occupation regimes in Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories. The move reflects Kyiv's ongoing effort to disrupt the infrastructure enabling Russian disinformation and control.
The sanctions specifically target companies that provide secure communication channels and internet access in these areas. Among the blacklisted firms are:
- Luhansk Communications
- Mobile Communication Systems
- Amtel-Sviazok
- Space Communications
These enterprises play a critical role in maintaining connectivity for occupying forces, creating additional security risks for Ukraine.
Response to the Sanctions
Vladyslav Vlasiuk emphasized that
“any activity in Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories is illegal,”underscoring the rationale behind sanctions designed to cripple companies that support occupation forces. By targeting these firms, Ukraine signals its determination to combat aggression and defend its territorial integrity.
These sanctions are part of a broader Ukrainian strategy to counter Russian aggression, encompassing both military and informational measures. Targeting specific companies that sustain occupation regimes could significantly disrupt their operations and reduce their capacity for information warfare. A key objective is also to draw international attention to the situation in Ukraine and encourage other nations to adopt similar measures.
