Ukraine has captured Chinese citizens in the Russian army: Zelensky urgently appealed to Beijing.
Ukrainian soldiers detained two Chinese citizens who participated in the war on the side of Russian occupation forces. This was reported by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on his social media on April 8, 2025.
The detention took place in the Donetsk region. According to the President, the captives were found with documents, bank cards, and other personal data confirming their citizenship.
We have information that there are significantly more such Chinese citizens in the occupier's units than just two. We are currently clarifying all the facts. Intelligence, the SBU, and the appropriate units of the Armed Forces are working on it,' Zelensky said.
The President ordered the Minister of Foreign Affairs to urgently contact China to clarify their position regarding this incident.
Zelensky emphasized that the participation of Russian citizens of China, directly or indirectly, in the war in Europe is a signal that Putin has no intention of ending the conflict.
Further involvement of Russia in the war requires a reaction from the USA, Europe, and the whole world who seeks peace, the President added.
Currently, the detained Chinese citizens are in the Security Service of Ukraine, where appropriate investigative and operational actions are being carried out.
