Ukrainians in Poland face fines up to 500 thousand: applies to parents of schoolchildren.
Poland is introducing fines for Ukrainians who do not send their children to school.
According to "Hvylya", the Polish Ministry of National Education explains this decision.
Many Ukrainians with children had to leave Ukraine due to Russian aggression and many of them settled in Poland. The government of this country understands that continuous education is important for the future of the young generation and has decided to take strict measures to ensure school attendance.
The essence is that Ukrainian refugees in Poland must adhere to the new rule - school obligation for children of the appropriate age. Parents who do not bring their children to school will be punished.
Previously, Ukrainian children with temporary status had the option to choose between attending Polish schools or continuing remote learning under the Ukrainian system. However, from September 1, this situation has changed. Now mandatory school education, including a preparatory class, is being introduced for these children.
Explanation from the Ministry of Education of Poland: "Responsibility for controlling the obligatory education of children living in school districts is placed on the directors of primary schools. Local self-government bodies are responsible for ensuring mandatory education for young people living in their territory."
For non-compliance with compulsory school education or training, sanctions such as fines or coercive measures may be imposed. However, the fine cannot exceed 10,000 zlotys (100,000 hryvnias), and the total amount of fines cannot exceed 50,000 zlotys (500,000 hryvnias).
Before the commencement of executive proceedings, the school principal sends a warning to the parents or legal guardians of the student.
The Polish authorities have also introduced measures to encourage Ukrainian children to attend school and integrate into the Polish educational system. The payment of social assistance is now tied to the fulfillment of school obligations.
Families of Ukrainians who do not send their children to school lose the right to the monthly benefit 800+ (equivalent of 8,000 hryvnias), which is paid until the child comes of age. They are also not entitled to receive the one-Time benefit "Good start" in the amount of 300 zlotys (about 3,000 hryvnias), designed for preparation for the beginning of the school year.
If parents receive a notification from the Social Insurance Administration about the suspension of payments, they must provide information about the educational institution where their child is studying.
Comment from the Ministry of Education: "If it is necessary to add documents confirming this condition, please do so."
The Ministry of Education also notes that Ukrainian students cannot independently gain knowledge at home due to poor knowledge of the Polish language.
The participation of Ukrainian children in online classes organized by Ukrainian educational institutions should not interfere with mandatory attendance at Polish school.
