Revised Guidelines for Temporary Disability Benefits

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine has introduced new rules for calculating temporary disability benefits, which now depend on an individual's insurance record. The maximum payout has been raised to 172,940 UAH, marking a significant increase for many citizens. These updated regulations are governed by Article 17 of the Law on Compulsory State Social Insurance.

The amount of temporary disability benefits varies based on the length of insurance coverage. Specifically:

  • For up to three years of coverage: 50% of the average salary;
  • For three to five years: 60%;
  • For five to eight years: 70%;
  • For over eight years: 100%.

It is worth noting that full 100% benefits are also granted to certain groups, including individuals affected by the Chornobyl disaster, parents of sick children, war veterans, family members of deceased veterans, victims of Nazi persecution, and blood donors.

Maternity and Pregnancy Benefits

Additionally, maternity and pregnancy benefits are provided at 100% of the average salary, regardless of insurance tenure. For those with less than six months of insurance coverage, sick leave payments cannot exceed the minimum wage, ensuring social protections for new workers.

Starting in 2026, the maximum base for calculating the single social contribution (SSC) will be 172,940 UAH per month. For context, the current average salary in the IT sector is 85,673 UAH, while in the capital city of Kyiv it stands at 100,703 UAH. These changes aim to enhance the level of social security for citizens requiring financial support during periods of temporary incapacity.

The updated rules for temporary disability benefits are designed to improve social protection for the population. Basing payouts on insurance history allows for a fairer assessment of each citizen's contribution to the social insurance system.

This approach could positively influence motivation for formal employment and encourage the creation of more jobs, thereby contributing to the country's economic stability.
