Ukrainian Maguchikh named best athlete in the world.


Ukrainian Olympic champion in high jump Yaroslav Maguchikh has been named the best athlete in the world for 2024 by the World Athletics Federation.
This was reported on the official social media pages of the organization. During the final voting, Maguchikh defeated Belgian Nafissatou Thiam, who became the Olympic champion in Paris 2024 in heptathlon.
'Yaroslav Maguchikh has been named your best athlete of the year,' announced the Association.
It is worth noting that Maguchikh has been nominated for the World Athletics award for the third consecutive year, but this is the first Time she has won the award. The best athlete in the world for 2024 was Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis.
During an interview, Champion Yaroslav Maguchikh admitted that the run-up was one of the main reasons for the world record, and the run-up technique was changed twice during 2024.
According to Yaroslav, at first her steps during the run-up were jumping, after which they were replaced with running steps so that she would not waste extra energy.

Maguchikh is an Olympic champion, three-time Diamond League champion - the most prestigious athletics competition, as well as a world record holder in high jump.
This season, Maguchikh won gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, became the European champion, and the silver medalist of the indoor World Championships and Diamond League champion, winning all stages she participated in.
Also, at the beginning of July this year, Maguchikh set a world record in women's high jump. At the Diamond League stage in Paris, the Ukrainian athlete jumped a height of 2.10 meters - the first woman in history to achieve this.
