According to UATV: On the night of July 22, Russian forces launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine, employing a mix of missiles and drones. Ukrainian air defenses responded effectively, neutralizing the majority of incoming threats and preventing widespread damage.

Details of the Strike

The attack included one Iskander-M ballistic missile and three Kh-59/69 air-launched cruise missiles, all fired from Russia’s temporarily occupied Crimea. Additionally, Moscow deployed 216 attack drones—comprising Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and so-called 'Parody' imitation UAVs.

These unmanned systems were launched from multiple Russian cities, including Bryansk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from occupied areas in Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Crimea.

As of 8:30 a.m., Ukraine’s air defense had successfully intercepted three Kh-59/69 cruise missiles and 204 enemy drones. However, one Iskander-M ballistic missile struck its target, and 12 attack drones hit their designated locations. On the Russian side, losses included a MiG-29 fighter jet valued at $25 million and a Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile/gun system worth $20 million.

This operation is part of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, which began in 2014. It underscores the critical role of air defense in protecting Ukrainian territory and highlights the escalating intensity of Russian military actions.
