Ukrzaliznytsia launches high-speed Wi-Fi in sleeping cars: details and prices.
According to ТСН: Ukrzaliznytsia expands its pilot project for providing wireless internet access on long-distance passenger trains. The Wi-Fi system has already been installed on both trains of route #95/96 "Hutsulshchyna", which runs between Kyiv and Rakhiv.
According to the company, the testing of the technology based on Starlink terminals has moved to the active usage stage. Previously, high-speed internet was only available on "Intercity+" trains, but now the service has also appeared in the sleeping cars of flagship long-distance trains.
Access Conditions and Pricing
Under the pilot project, passengers can take advantage of the following conditions:
Trial period: the first 10 minutes of access are provided for free to check connection quality or for urgent communication.
Paid access: the cost of unlimited daily traffic is 120 UAH.
Speed limit: the first 5 GB of data are available at maximum speed without restrictions.
Payment methods: the service can be paid for directly on the train using a bank card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.
The technological solution is built on Starlink equipment, which has already been successfully tested on diplomatic flights. It should be noted that the installation of systems in the cars of the "Hutsulshchyna" train was carried out by the project's partner without attracting direct investments from Ukrzaliznytsia.
We strive to provide passengers the ability to work and stay connected even during long trips. If the demand for the service remains stable, the company will scale Wi-Fi to other routes through a transparent competition procedure, they emphasized in UZ.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
It is worth recalling that earlier there was talk about free satellite communication for smartphones, which Ukraine plans to launch at the end of 2025.
This project not only improves passenger comfort during trips but also demonstrates Ukrzaliznytsia's intention to implement cutting-edge technologies. If this initiative succeeds, similar services are expected to become more accessible on other routes, significantly enhancing travelers' connectivity. Thus, Ukrzaliznytsia is actively working to improve service levels, which may contribute to an increase in passenger numbers in the future.
