Ukrzaliznytsia to Launch New Rail Services to Bulgaria and a Daytime Uzhhorod–Košice Route.
Ukraine's Rail Operator Expands Its International Network
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's state railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, is set to broaden its international services with new routes to Bulgaria and the introduction of two daily return trains connecting Uzhhorod and Košice. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to develop cross-border travel, aiming to provide more convenient options for journeys between Ukraine and neighboring nations. These expansions reflect the company's ongoing efforts to adapt to modern passenger needs and the growing demand for international rail travel.
Oleksiy Balesta, Ukraine's Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development, acknowledged that establishing the Bulgarian route is technically complex. However, he emphasized its potential, noting it would likely attract seasonal demand from travelers.
This statement underscores the interest in boosting passenger traffic along this corridor to meet traveler needs.
In a related move to improve affordability, Ukrzaliznytsia has already reduced the ticket price to Bucharest by approximately 2,000 hryvnias, making travel more accessible for Ukrainian citizens. The company continues to work on extending its international schedule.
Implications for Transport Infrastructure
The expansion of Ukrzaliznytsia's international routes represents a significant step in enhancing Ukraine's transport infrastructure. This development is expected to not only boost tourism but also strengthen economic ties with neighboring countries.
The reduction in ticket prices could further stimulate travel demand, which would, in turn, positively impact the overall volume of passenger traffic and the company's financial performance.
