Free and discounted train travel for children

According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian Railways has introduced updated policies that allow families with children to travel at no cost or with significant discounts. Children up to 5 years old can ride for free when accompanied by an adult, without needing a separate seat. For international routes, the age limit varies: on trains to Moldova, children up to 4 years inclusive travel free, while on services to Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Austria, and Hungary, the free travel age is up to 3 years.

When traveling with two or more children under 5, families must purchase one child ticket for every two kids. This rule helps parents with toddlers plan trips more conveniently and avoid unnecessary expenses. For children aged 6 to 13, a 25% discount on the standard fare is available, further easing the cost of family travel.

Discounts on European routes

On trains to Moldova, children between 5 and 9 years old enjoy a substantial discount of 62–64%, offering considerable savings. Additionally, children traveling to other European destinations receive a 50% discount, except for seats in economy-class (platzkart) carriages. These measures aim to make international travel more appealing and accessible for young families.

It is also worth noting that Ukrainian Railways has updated its summer schedule, introducing 12 new routes that expand options for traveling with children. These changes support both domestic and international tourism by making it more affordable for Ukrainian families. Against the backdrop of economic challenges facing many households, such initiatives can significantly ease the financial burden of travel. Discounts and free tickets enable more families to enjoy trips, which is crucial for boosting tourism and improving quality of life. The addition of new services also reflects Ukrainian Railways' commitment to adapting to passenger needs, potentially increasing the popularity of rail transport across Ukraine.
