Expanded Categories for Filing Damage Claims

According to Novyny.live: The Ukrainian government has broadened the range of categories available for submitting claims of harm caused by Russian aggression to the international Register of Damages, using the Diia digital platform. This initiative aims to streamline the documentation of losses suffered by citizens and businesses during the war.

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has introduced 14 new categories for recording damages. Previously, only 8 categories were available for filing claims. Notable additions include loss of access to healthcare and education. This move is designed to ensure more comprehensive coverage of the various types of harm Ukrainians have endured as a result of the armed conflict.

Documenting Losses

Furthermore, the state can now document environmental damage, illegal appropriation of natural resources, and damage to cultural heritage sites. This is especially critical, as preserving cultural assets and ecological conditions in Ukraine remains a priority for post-war recovery. Entrepreneurs also gained the ability to register damage to culturally valuable properties and expenses related to relocating employees.

With the new categories, Ukrainians can submit claims in the following areas:

  • Damage or destruction of housing
  • Forced internal displacement
  • Forced displacement abroad
  • Death of a close family member
  • Enforced disappearance
  • Torture
  • Sexual violence
  • Other losses caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation

These changes will help better organize information about losses and support international recognition of the damages inflicted on Ukraine by the war.

Expanding the categories for filing damage claims marks a significant step in documenting the consequences of Russian aggression and supporting affected citizens and businesses. It may also boost prospects for international aid and reconstruction funding, as more detailed and structured loss data can improve the chances of obtaining compensation. Amid the ongoing conflict, this initiative aids Ukraine’s recovery process and ensures that all types of harm to the population are accounted for.
