Ukraine Launches Business Grant Program for Energy Independence.
Financial Support for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
According to TSN.ua: The Ukrainian government has initiated a new financial support program for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) to bolster their energy independence. Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko announced that eligible individual entrepreneurs (sole proprietors) from groups 2 and 3, operating in socially critical sectors, can receive a one-time grant ranging from 7,500 to 15,000 hryvnias. This initiative is part of a broader effort to help businesses withstand the ongoing energy crisis caused by Russia's war. The grant amount depends on the number of employees, with a mandatory requirement of having at least one staff member on payroll.
Applications for the assistance must be submitted through the government's "Diia" portal. The State Employment Service will transfer the funds to recipients after their applications are verified by partner banks. The grant money can be used for specific purposes, including:
- Purchasing or repairing energy equipment;
- Buying fuel for generators;
- Paying for electricity services.
Additional Payments for Energy and Infrastructure Workers
In a separate measure, from January to March, a one-time payment of 20,000 hryvnias will be made to energy sector workers and those restoring critical infrastructure. This new SME grant program aims to support businesses and promote the development of energy resilience across Ukraine.
The introduction of this program is a direct response to the severe challenges of the ongoing energy crisis, which has been exacerbated by relentless attacks on the national grid. Supporting SMEs in vital sectors is crucial for preserving jobs and ensuring economic stability during the war. Furthermore, investing in energy equipment can improve resource efficiency and reduce dependence on external energy supplies.
