Ukraine Launches 'LightHOME' Grant Program for Residential Power Generation.
New 'LightHOME' Program Announced
According to Novyny.live: The Ukrainian government has introduced a new initiative called 'LightHOME,' which offers financial assistance of up to 300,000 hryvnias to co-owners of multi-apartment buildings. This program was announced by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal during a meeting of the Headquarters on February 1. The initiative is part of a broader set of measures designed to strengthen the country's energy resilience, including the completion of repairs on a high-voltage line connecting Ukraine and Moldova. This comes as Ukraine continues to face significant challenges to its energy infrastructure due to ongoing conflict.
During the February 1 meeting, officials noted the completion of repairs on a high-voltage line, adding 500 MW of capacity. In the Kyiv region, a 1.5 MW cogeneration unit has already been commissioned, with another 1 MW unit expected to launch tomorrow. Approximately 4.5 MW of new capacity was added in the region during January. The government has also expanded the '5-7-9%' loan program for purchasing cogeneration equipment, raising the maximum investment loan limit from 150 to 250 million hryvnias.
"We are accelerating the pace of implementing cogeneration units," emphasized Denys Shmyhal.
For the first stage of the 'LightHOME' program, the government has allocated 800 million hryvnias. The program aims to support the purchase of various equipment, including generators, batteries, inverters, solar panels, and other devices that facilitate independent energy generation. As of February 1, 693 residential buildings in Kyiv remain without heating, highlighting the urgency of these energy sector measures.
Strengthening the Energy Grid
The need to reinforce the national energy system was further underscored by a major power grid accident that occurred in Ukraine on January 31.
The launch of 'LightHOME' reflects the Ukrainian government's efforts to improve energy infrastructure and enhance energy independence. In the context of an energy crisis exacerbated by accidents and reduced capacity, such initiatives are critically important. Supporting private investment in renewable energy and urgently addressing the consequences of emergency situations could significantly impact the stability of Ukraine's energy system in the coming months.
