Uzhgorod has received direct railway connections with Vienna and Budapest: details.
According to inkorr.com: A new section of the Eurotrack between Uzhgorod and Chop has been opened at the railway station in Uzhgorod. This was reported by
"Hromadske"referring to the Office of the President.
Importance of the new track
Thanks to the new track, which is part of the European network, Uzhgorod has become the first regional center that connects Ukraine with Bratislava, Kosice, Budapest, and Vienna. Trains on this track will start running to Europe from September 12.
Reports on the implementation of the project
The President heard information from the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction, Minister for Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba, as well as from the head of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia Oleksandr Pertskovskyi about the implementation of this important project to expand the Eurotrack. According to them, the length of the new track is 22 km. Officials also indicated that the Ukrainian railway system uses a 'broad' gauge of 1520 mm, while the European standard is 1435 mm. It is known that the European Union plans to launch high-speed rail connections between Berlin and Kyiv by 2040.
The opening of the European track at the Uzhgorod station is an important step in strengthening ties between Ukraine and European countries. It will contribute to further development of transport infrastructure and increase the volumes of international passenger and cargo transportation.
