Lebanon urges the US to end the war in the Middle East
Cross-border rocket attacks by Israel and Hezbollah have increased fears of a full-scale war in the Middle East. Lebanon has stated that only the US can help stop the fighting, Reuters reports.
"Lebanon is on the brink. The people of Lebanon, the people of Israel, and the people of the world cannot allow Lebanon to become another Gaza," said UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Joe Biden also spoke at the UN General Assembly and stated that "full-scale war is in no one's interest".
Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib criticized Biden's speech as "not forward-looking" and stated that the US is the only country "that can really change the situation in the Middle East and regarding Lebanon".
"The United States is the key to our salvation," he said at the UN General Assembly meeting.
