A veteran of the Crimean Tatar national movement and a political prisoner from the USSR era, delegate of several convocations of the Kurultai of the Crimean Tatar people, Arsen Alchikov, has died in occupied Crimea. This was reported by the chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov.

Arsen Alchikov was born in 1941 in the village of Shuma in the Alushta district of the Crimean ASSR. At the age of three, along with his family, he was deported with other Crimean Tatars from the peninsula.

Arsen Alchikov became a participant in the Crimean Tatar national movement and acquired the profession of a design engineer. He, along with his wife, was convicted during the 'trial of twelve' in 1967.

The Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014 did not force Arsen Alchikov to leave his homeland and loyalty to his people.

According to the chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Arsen Alchikov was an active participant in the Crimean Tatar national movement and a mentor to many young activists.

Arsen Alchikov's burial will take place on January 13, 2025, in the village of Krasnovka in the Simferopol district.
