Meeting of the Working Group for Election Preparations

According to ТСН: On Friday, the first meeting of the special working group aimed at preparing legislative proposals for elections and referendums will take place.

The First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Korniienko, noted that the group’s work will begin in an online format.

“Tomorrow at 1:00 PM, the first online meeting of the working group on the preparation for elections and referendums during martial law and in the post-war period is scheduled. Currently, about 60 people have already joined the working group. People without membership status in the working group can also join, but with the ability to participate,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.

Experts have been invited to work in the group, including representatives of all parliamentary factions and groups, as well as about 10 representatives of public organizations and officials from executive authorities and law enforcement agencies.

Five members from the Central Election Commission, led by the head of the commission, are part of the group. Among Korniienko's deputies in the group, the following can be highlighted:

  • Olena Shuliak — head of the committee on state governance;

  • Oleksandr Zavitnevych — head of the committee on national security;

  • Olena Kondratyuk — deputy chair of the Verkhovna Rada.

The deputy head of the relevant committee, Alina Zahoruiko, is also part of the group by position.

Korniienko noted that the meeting will last about two hours and will consist of two parts. The first part will be devoted to organizational issues and the creation of thematic subgroups for technical discussions, while the second part will present a detailed presentation from the Central Election Commission.

“The members of the CEC will prepare a comprehensive presentation that will raise all the issues arising during elections in wartime and in post-war elections… Then we will simply exchange opinions on which of these issues and how they can be resolved, where we need to move towards… We will work for about two hours,” noted Korniienko.

The meeting will take place in an open format: the broadcast will be available online on social media and YouTube.

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, previously announced the establishment of a working group that will focus on preparing a draft law regarding the regulation of elections in Ukraine. However, details such as specific dates or formats of the electoral process have not yet been discussed.

It should also be noted that Ukraine is ready to hold elections as soon as possible after signing a security agreement, if required by the situation and agreements with partners. However, the process must take place in compliance with democratic standards and under conditions of complete security.

Current elections in Ukraine in times of crises require special attention and well-thought-out measures. Currently, the working group is actively working on developing legislative initiatives that could significantly change the election process rules, taking into account the current challenges. This will be an important step towards ensuring the stability of democratic processes in the country.
