1000 bodies of fallen defenders returned to Ukraine: among them 5 POWs.
Another 1000 bodies of Ukrainian servicemen have been returned to Ukraine, of which 5 belonged to those who died in captivity. This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on August 19.
Return of Ukrainian soldiers' bodies home
'Today, repatriation activities took place under preliminary agreements. 1000 bodies have been returned to Ukraine, which, according to the Russian side, belong to Ukrainian servicemen' — the message states.
Among the repatriated are five bodies of Ukrainian fighters who died in captivity. They were on the lists of 'seriously wounded and seriously ill' prisoners for exchange according to the agreements in Istanbul during the second round of negotiations. The Coordination Headquarters emphasized the need for the urgent release of all seriously ill and seriously wounded captives and the return of all Ukrainian citizens.
In the future, the identification of the repatriated bodies will be conducted in cooperation with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Coordination Headquarters also expressed gratitude to all agencies and institutions that assisted in conducting repatriation activities.
It was noted that 1000 bodies of Ukrainian servicemen and 5 bodies of those who died in captivity have been returned to Ukraine as part of repatriation activities. The Coordination Headquarters emphasized the need to continue the process of releasing seriously ill and seriously wounded Ukrainian citizens.
