Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Court Partially Lifts Asset Freeze on Yulia Tymoshenko.
Appellate Chamber Revises Lower Court Ruling
According to Novyny.live: The Appellate Chamber of Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court has revised a pre-trial investigation judge's rulings concerning assets linked to Yulia Tymoshenko, partially overturning the initial decisions. The appellate ruling was issued on February 16. During the case review, a freeze was upheld on funds held in Tymoshenko's bank accounts. However, the court refused to freeze half-shares in three vehicles and two garages registered to her husband.
Furthermore, the Appellate Chamber lifted a freeze on funds amounting to $6,300 USD. As noted by the court's press service,
"Following the review, the panel of judges of the Appellate Chamber partially canceled the ruling of the pre-trial investigation judge, which had imposed a freeze on the property of the suspect's husband, but upheld the refusal to freeze the funds in her bank accounts."
Next Steps and Ongoing Investigation
In a separate ruling by the pre-trial investigation judge, the freeze on the aforementioned sum was also canceled. Press service specialists added:
"Another ruling by the pre-trial investigation judge was canceled regarding the imposition of a freeze on funds amounting to $6,300 USD. The freeze on these funds was refused. Other parts of the pre-trial judge's ruling were left unchanged, and the related appeals were dismissed."
This legal action follows searches conducted at Yulia Tymoshenko's office in January 2023 as part of an investigation into her activities. Tymoshenko, a former prime minister and a prominent opposition figure, has faced multiple legal proceedings over the years.
The decision by the Appellate Chamber indicates a partial success for Tymoshenko's appeals, which could influence the trajectory of the ongoing investigation. Simultaneously, the continued freeze on her bank account funds signals that the legal process in this case remains active. Observers are watching for further investigative steps and their potential implications for Ukraine's political landscape.
